Matthew, also knows as SCVYN is a 17 year old graphic designer, psychologist, traveling enthusiast and amateur photographer. Matthew have been working on different creative fields since 2018 when he was around 13 years old. "Each time I had changed the category of work I was doing I was creating a new name, identity etc. I have been testing a lot when it comes to posting and growing on social media to better know them so with time I also gained a lot of experience which allowed me to be where I’m now" Matthew explains.
The first time Matthew ever opened Photoshop was in late 2018 when he tried to make a banner for his Youtube channel at the time. The Channel never went anywhere but Matthew decided that the creative aspect was for him, he then continued working in the artistic medium and started with 3D designs which was mainly focused on 3D Fortnite thumbnails.
Since I started my next Instagram account (which is the one everyone knows him for) Matthew understood that creativity isn’t something that comes from nowhere. It has a relation with discipline, observation and different stimuli. You will have both ideas and a will to transform them into reality if you will master it.
In the beginnings, Matthew ignored the fact that "style” was a thing. Thanks to that he didn’t try to adjust and was doing what he wanted, spontaneity. Matthew believed at the time that staying in his comfort zone for creating would benefit him greatly in the ease of designing.
Observation is truly important, following different artist accounts and keeping up with different trends inspired Matthew to become the artist that he is today. "However there is a difference between understanding trends and following trends. Before I follow something I have to understand it" Matthew explains.
As Matthew currently doesn't have any experience in collaborating ideas and work, he would love to challenge himself and a want to collaborate with other artists.
The most challenging project Matthew has worked on is the project he his currently working on right now.
"I can’t tell much about it but the thing which helps me with that is just pushing it forward, experiment, and doing regular breaks so it won’t confuse me too fast" Matthew explains. Matthew also believes hard challenges need regular and short breaks, "it’s really easy to lose a proper track and you don’t want to be confused" Matthew adds.
Advice Matthew gives to new and upcoming artists is "Don’t try to be like someone else". "The things we like don’t have to be the things we create" Matthew adds.
Matthew also explains that it is also important to not be blinded by someone’s numbers or a quick impression of someone’s work. "As humans we are easily getting jealous or we want to be like someone and I prefer to not walk trough that path" Matthew added.
When Matthew started his artistic journey, he realised his main mistake that made him unhappy was try to be someone else before he even tried to be himself. Find your identity and do what you truly feel. Also remember that perfectionism will affect you in negative way, avoid it if it’s possible.
You can find all of Matthews work on Instagram (@thescvyn). Matthew also hinted that soon enough, he will have his own website and also his own shopfront. Matthew concluded by adding "I have a nice plan for the future and I’m sure that no one in my country did that before so feel free to wish me luck and stay with me during my journey. I think I might surprise some of you".
